The 4-day Inca Trail is one of the most iconic trekking routes in the world, offering a perfect combination of adventure, history and breathtaking scenery. This multi-day trek takes hikers through ancient Inca trails, past archaeological ruins, lush jungles and mountainous landscapes, culminating in the magical citadel of Machu Picchu.
Day 1:
- Start at Km 82: The journey begins at Km 82, near Ollantaytambo, with a gentle initial hike that allows for acclimatization.
- Llactapata: Visit the ruins of Llactapata, an important archaeological site along the way.
- Camping in Wayllabamba: The day ends with a camp in Wayllabamba, enjoying a night under the Andean stars.
Day 2:
- Ascent to the Abra de Warmiwañusca: The most challenging day, with an ascent to the highest point of the trek, the Paso de la Mujer Muerta (Warmiwañusca) at 4,200 meters.
- Camping in Pacaymayo: Descend to the Pacaymayo valley to camp and rest.
Day 3:
- Runkurakay and Sayacmarca: Visit the ruins of Runkurakay and Sayacmarca, exploring more archaeological sites along the way.
- Phuyupatamarca: Ascent to the Phuyupatamarca pass, known as “The City above the Clouds”, followed by a descent to Wiñay Wayna.
- Camping at Wiñay Wayna: Last night camping near the impressive ruins of Wiñay Wayna.
Day 4:
- Arrival at Machu Picchu: Early morning to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) at sunrise and get the first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu.
- Guided tour of Machu Picchu: Explore the Inca citadel with a guided tour, learning about its history and architecture.
- Return to Cusco: Free time to explore before returning to Aguas Calientes, and then by train and transportation to Cusco.

Full Itinerary
Day 1 Cusco - KM 84 - Patallacta
Between 6:00 am – 6:30 am, our private transportation will pick you up from your hotel, to travel to piscacucho, also known as the KM 82 “START OF THE TRADITIONAL INCA TRAIL TO MACHUPICCHU” The km 82 is the official government control of Machu Picchu, place we must identify ourselves with our original passport and original student card. Only if I apply for the student discount.
From km 82 we have a 2 hour walk to Miskay “lunch place”, this 1st part of the trail is flat and you can see a lot of Andean flora and the Andes Landscape. After lunch we walk for 02 hours more until we arrive to Wayllabamba “camping place”, the stretch is gradual ascent.
Approximately at 5pm, we will be arriving to our camp, place where our tents will be ready. From 6:30 pm Dinner “we take the opportunity for the guide to explain the itinerary of the next day. Overnight at campsites.
Day 2 Wayllabamba – Pacaymayuc
We enjoy the dawn of our journey 5:30 am and breakfast at 6:00 am, start of the hike 6:30 am. This day we walk 7kms for 5 hours to the highest point Warminñawuska “the pass of the Dead Woman 4200 masl.
Then we have to walk 02 hours down to our 2nd camp “Pacaymayuc at 3600masl”. Pacaymayu: The place is somewhat cold at night could reach 0, degrees so it is necessary to have warm clothes.
In Pacaymayu we will have lunch. At 6:30 pm dinner “we take the opportunity for the guide to explain the itinerary of the next day of our Inca Trail tour. Overnight at campsites.
Day 3 Pacaymayu- Wiñawayna
6:30 am we start with our nice breakfast and start the Inca Trail at 7:00 am. This day is the most beautiful day of the Inca Trail as we appreciate the dense forest of the high Amazon jungle and all the splendor of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
From the camp to the archaeological site of Runkuraqay is 01 hour and then another hour to the highest point of the Inca Trail, the Runkuracay Pass at 4000 masl.
Then we descend to the Sayacmarca Archaeological Center and later after 25 minutes we arrive to Chaquicocha the place for lunch.
After lunch along the beautiful cobblestone Inca trail makes its way to the high jungle in a 01 hour descent we arrive at Phuyupatamarca. After 02 hours of Inca trail we arrive at Wiñayhuayna our last campsite, arriving at 17:00 pm approximately.
At 6:30 pm dinner “we take the opportunity for the guide to explain the itinerary of the next day’s trip to the Inca Trail. Overnight at campsites.
Day 4 Wiñaywayna - Inti Punku - Machu Picchu
This day we get up very early, “4:30 am” to be one of the first groups in the entrance to the last stretch of the Inca Trail.
Breakfast at 4:30 am and 5:00 we make our registration at the control of Wiñayhuayna. We will have 1 hour walk in the last part of the Inca Trail to INTIPUNKU “The Sun Gate” from this point you can see Macchu Picchu.
Free time to appreciate the sunrise at Macchu Picchu. After our free time, we will descend for 01 hour to reach the Inca city of Machupicchu.
Arriving at the Inca city we make the entrance control of Machupicchu where we show again our passport and our income to have the authorization to enter the Inca city of Machu Picchu.
We take the opportunity to leave the backpacks “in the luggage storage at extra cost” the payment is direct, also the use of toilets. We re-enter the Inca city of Machu Picchu for our guided tour, which starts from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. After the tour you will have free time to take many more pictures, rest or take your free time and visit Machu Picchu at your own discretion:
Later we will board a bus to aguas calientes, and then have lunch at Machu Picchu Pueblo Tourist restaurant. Optional relax in the hot springs.
Immediately we will board the return train Expedition Service 18:30 pm and after a journey of 02 hours we will arrive in Ollantaytambo and later a bus transfer to Cusco.
We will arrive in Cusco between 10:00 pm to 10:30 pm.
